Hybrid's sales and marketing intern recounts his time at the company

How I spent a summer as Hybrid’s Sales & Marketing Intern

Nottingham Trent University International Business undergraduate, Sam Rosser, spent the summer honing his creative and business skills as part of Hybrid’s sales and marketing team.

In April 2024, Hybrid Services introduced me to the print industry, employing me as their sales and marketing intern. Not knowing anything at all about this industry before my first day, I was determined to understand as much as I could, as quickly as I could, and to be involved in events that I would gain immense experience from. Fast forward five months to the present day, and I am walking away from this internship that I will forever be grateful for, perfecting the relevant skills needed for my future career, and more.

Creating content

Over the course of my internship, there have been many things that I have played a part in. For example, I was able to create videos for Hybrid’s newly made TikTok account, focusing on various machines and their applications, like the Mimaki CG-60AR vinyl cutter, and using its capabilities to create coffee stencils. My involvement in the sales and marketing team went from content creating to preparing for one of the biggest UK print events on the calendar, so it has been quite a diverse experience being able to do all these different things.

Working with Hybrid’s reseller partners

This experience has allowed me to understand the importance of business relationships, regardless of which part of the sale process it is. Hybrid brings Mimaki’s product range to market through a network of authorised reseller partners, and I learned that having positive relationships with both the resellers and our mutual customers was equally valuable. In the early stages of my internship, I was fortunate enough to visit one of our resellers and gained a valuable insight into their business, seeing how they ran things from their perspective.

Event management

As we prepared for events, such as a knowledge sharing workshop that we hosted in partnership with Textintel, to the PrintShow exhibition, it allowed me to witness the hard work and dedication from everybody involved. The moments behind the scenes to get everything ready are the moments that nobody sees, however it’s just as important as getting it right for when the event is taking place. From making sure all the machines used are perfectly setup and prepared, to sorting out what catering is needed for visitors, everyone was involved in every step. It was incredible to see it all play out so brilliantly.

I am grateful to have had this brilliant opportunity to strengthen my skills for my future career plans, whatever they may be! The dream is to work in motorsport, whether it is for a WEC team or in Formula 1. I plan to use the skills I have gained from this experience into any new position that I will undertake, during and after university and I want to thank everyone at Hybrid Services for making this the best experience it could possibly be.
